The Century Edition: This beautiful four volume set, written by the Professor of History at Princeton University, is finely bound in half red leather and blue marbled boards w/ gilt rules to cover and untarnished gilt titles to spine; all four have straight, firm and tight bindings; each w/ a full color frontispiece from a painting w/ bright intact tissue guard; approximately 280 pages each; very tight clean and bright pages – appear unread; printed on thick high-quality paper, each book is illustrated w/ color and b/w plates of portraits, plates, engravings; five raised bands and a gilt “N” to red leather spines; boards and endpaper are marbled; No ex-libris plates, signatures or other markings; the head and tail of spines are mildly rubbed w/ some rubbing to some of the spine edges; a hint of rubbing to corners and some fore-edges; one volume has a bit more rubbing to three corners than the rest; each w/ gilt page tops; indexed; these beautiful volumes are an extremely well-preserved set, suitable for the most discerning collector.
